It started with an idea
Arguably, Little Rat Brain (LRB), is not the most professional name.
It is, however, my name.
Not my actual name, of course, but a long-time nickname that is now known world-wide. LRB is the name that allows me to be the most authentic, creative expression of myself—something that I think we all need in our lives.
So who am I?
Although unconventional, Little Rat Brain (LRB) is the perfect creative name. As an immersive multimedia artist, she is curious and constantly seeking mental stimulation. Following her passion of travelling has led her to take trips crisscrossing the United States and circumnavigating the globe to over ninety countries. Beyond gaining inspiration to draw on for new works, these trips have also provided her with opportunities to explore the foundations of humanity; history, science, creativity, and the importance of connection.
Within a complicated maze of creative expression, she has mastered the maze of inclusion and finding the perfect blend of past and future. A process that allows for the highlighting of the lessons and past of cultures in the world we all live in, and the innovation and inventiveness of modern technologies.
-Studio Manager
Creative statement
I strive to live every day in a creative manner. This can be seen by working on an existing project, gathering inspiration from the world around me, or creating a new project with unique materials–much to the dismay of my studio manager.
As a whole, my work focuses on the relationship between location, time, and the people who occupy them. In an effort to best tell the story of a piece, my work varies in both scope, anywhere from miniature wearable pieces to large interactive community installations, but also in depth. A core belief of my creative process is that the magnitude and impact of art is not determined by individual dimensions, but rather the ability of a piece to reflect the compelling complexity of influences.
Within all pieces, I strive to incorporate authentic experiences. This creates a space for an awareness of nature and self-growth, as well as a moment of introspection on the various interactions between souls of the world. My favorite works of art combine the interactions of time and place, often made on location, using reclaimed materials from the surrounding areas–adding a voice to the ensemble that makes up the final product.
As both an artist and a person whose interactions are always continuously learning and evolving, my technical processes echo that. I aspire to create pieces that pull from lessons from skilled craftsmen, material sciences and local artistic influences. Across the world, I have set myself on a pursuit of seeking out formal and informal instruction on an array of disciplines.
My ultimate goal is to facilitate a moment between my art and the viewer. In that moment, my art transitions from a conglomeration of intangible moments to a tangible existence ready to be experienced by others. This interaction and experience sparks intangible moments, a cylindrical cycle that feeds itself, a creative process that never ceases.
